The Last Day & Stuff We Noticed About Beijing

We arranged our last day in Beijing to see Tian'anmen Square and Forbidden City which are not something you should miss when you are in Beijing, either for the magnificent architecture or for historical culture. The recommended time for visiting these two places together really depends on individual preference. It took us half a day in the morning and we chilled at Beihai Park in the afternoon before heading back to Shanghai. Photos talk better! :-) 4 days in Beijing was not so long but it's a good amount of time for us to explore the city and feel the different culture. Overall, Beijing...

Day 3: Mutianyu Great Wall Adventure

Didn't know that there are more than 10 Great Wall scenic spots near Beijing including Badaling, Juyongguan, Huanghuacheng, Gubeikou, Jinshanling, Simatai, Mutianyu and Jiankou etc. It's nice to have options, you know, but options also requires the decision of choice. All right! First things first. Which one should we go? We had our little principles - Do not go to the most crowded ones like Badaling and Juyongguan. Do not go to the ones that are too dangerous such as one of the Wild Great Walls - Jiankou. Even though it's probably the coolest Great Wall according to our research, safety...

Day 2: Summer Palace and Yuanmingyuan Park plus Back Lake

Honestly, our biggest interest for this Beijing trip was the Great Wall. Definitely not Badaling which everyone says that it's just boring stairs after stairs. Even though it's not peak season and it's probably a lot easier to get to Badaling, we wanted to check out something cooler like Jiankou, Simatai or Mutianyu Great Wall. The more busted, the better! Since these Great Walls are situated very far from the city, our research on how to get there via public transportation didn't go that well as we expected after visiting Temple of Heaven on the first day. As a result, we decided to hold it off and continue...

Day 1: Temple of Heaven — The Magnificent Combination of Religious Buildings and Landscape

After one-night sleep on the normal fast train T110, the first day of our Beijing trip started at 9:30 am on Nov 5, 2012 when we arrived at Beijing Railway Station. We heard that it was snowing the night before in Beijing. How nice to see some snow since Shanghai barely barely snows! It turned out to be a sunny day. No complaints. There was still some accumulation of snow here and there though. How did we feel? COLD! Snow from the night before outside of Beijing Railway Station Headed directly to Days Inn Forbidden City Hotel and checked in. What's the plan for the rest of the day then? We climbed...

4-day Itinerary in Beijing

Well, I hate to say this but as a Chinese, I hadn't been to the capital of my country until this November, not even for any business trips when I was at my previous job which required a lot of traveling. Yeah, I know! Shame on me! You know sometimes there are some places really close to you and everyone else goes there but because they are close and really easy to get to, you feel like sooner or later you will get the chance to visit, and you never do? Right? OK... I am finding excuses for myself here. I will stop! :-P Anyways, Han wanted to check out the Great Wall, so we decided to take care...
